The Life Changing Magic of “Day Rates”
If you’re considering offering One-Day Intensives, this is for you….
Let me ask, does this sound like you?
You started this business because in addition to your passion for the work you do and wanting to create impact with your work, you craved freedom.
More time to spend with your family, more time to travel and do the things you love…
You wanted to be able to set your own hours, and have more control over your earning potential…
…and the idea of working in yoga pants & not having to commute to the office every day?
Oh hell yes!
So you said goodbye to the 9-5, and set out on your own.
You started your business and soon thereafter, you started getting clients!
“Yes!” you thought, “The elusive dream life is in sight!”
Since then, you’ve worked with wonderful clients (and some not so wonderful)… meanwhile people are constantly sending you referrals and tagging you on social media.
Getting clients is NOT your problem.
After all, why should it be? You’re amazing at what you do, and it’s evident in your results! You’ve taken all the courses, read countless books, listened to the podcasts, and maybe even worked 1:1 with some of the best coaches in your industry.
But you’re still spinning your wheels, feeling like you’re not making enough money for the amount of hours you’re working…
You’ve found yourself often daydreaming about going back to a real J.O.B. because then at least you could clock out at 5:00 every day and get paid consistently.
You dream of the day that you actually DO have freedom again, and can take a vacation without your laptop.
Can I let you in on a little secret?
That was my exact story.
Isn’t it ironic that we call ourselves freelancers, yet the lifestyle we’re often building is anything but freedom-based??
- I was spending too long on non-billable work like trying to get leads through social media, sales calls, answering emails, and writing proposals, that don’t always turn into a client…
- Clients always seemed to be late providing me with the files that I needed, so I couldn’t start on time, and then they were inconsistent with feedback so the project just kept getting longer…
- Scope Creep was out of control.
- I would take on more clients to fill the gaps that the delayed clients had created – and when the delayed client suddenly was ready, I’d have to work overtime just to get everything finished in time.
- When I finally did finish a project, it sometimes would take weeks or months longer to actually get paid.
Of course I had contracts in place and guidelines to help minify some of the problems, but I still never felt 100% in control.
I was sick of the feast and famine cycle.
I found myself working insane hours, but only making decent money most of the time. The numbers just weren’t adding up….
Then one cold February day back in 2018, while I’d been in non-stop hustle mode to meet all of my client’s needs, I had my a-ha moment…
I’d been designing for nearly a decade, and although I was never at a loss for booking clients, I WAS finding myself overworked and underpaid.
I knew I was a good designer, and I also knew that I could knock out designs and client requests fast!
So I thought, ‘Why not test out the possibility of offering one-day design intensives?’
I shared this idea with my audience, and they went crazy for it!
I booked 3 one-day intensives from that very first offer, and then went on to continue booking several more each month!
Over time, I went from working 7 days a week, often 10+ hours per day to being able to choose exactly what days I wanted to work – FAR in advance, and far fewer than 7 days per week.
My income rose… From averaging $4-6K months, to steadily over $10K every single month.
I finally stopped packing my iMac into a giant suitcase every time my family wanted to go on vacation… I could actually GO on vacation, and not work.
I stopped feeling the need to constantly be scouring Facebook Groups, replying to posts about branding and design, in search of my next client or project. Clients were coming to me, and I became consistently booked out, 4-6 weeks in advance.
I finally had the white space in my calendar that I so desperately craved, and that gave me the opportunity to go on to create two new courses that supplement my design service revenue.
Doing done for you design work does not need to be draining, soul-sucking or a recipe for burnout.
You CAN do what you love, and do it on YOUR terms!
But, you need a plan.
The #1 thing you need to have in place, to get results and scale to a 6-figure business, is a repeatable process that includes an EPIC client experience, a marketing strategy that nearly runs itself (no ads required), and a highly automated set of tools and systems that handle the non-billable admin work.
Knowing this, I’ve entirely shifted my business model, and the only way you can hire me for my design services, is through my popular one-day design intensives called Book Me For a Day!
I’m consistently booked out 6-8 weeks in advance, which validates that there’s a need for more people doing this sort of work!
And I can honestly say that offering one-day intensive services is your one-way ticket to becoming a HAPPIER & more fulfilled (and financially free) designer!
